Wine Tasting: Deep Flavors

Light and/or Deep Flavors

The leaves are in the middle of changing and so is our palates. We recall summer like it was yesterday and keep an eye to the skies waiting for the chill to come. We will taste an around the world look at this transitionary period. Some flavors light and fresh others deep and powerful. Come and straddle the tasting of transition! 3 whites and 3 reds. All driven by big flavors, no light and tame tastes here.

@ Humble Vine 4 till the bottles are empty! Get here early!!

Here is the lineup!

Famega, Vinho Verde Rose, Portugal, $9

Fresh and fruity rosé with a slight spritz and a hint of bitters. Well-balanced blend of different vintages and several traditional grapes: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Vinhao, and Alvarelhao. Simply delicious! This is a perfect aperitif or a great accompaniment to cold shellfish, salads, or sitting on your patio.

Callia, Torrontes, Argentina, $13

An underrated grape: the Torrontes from Argentina. Fresh bright and ready for all types of food (or not). We will find orange peel and lychee aromas that are typical of the variety. The mouth feels straightforward, juicy, clean and fresh, with tangy acidity. Flavors of lime, lychee skins and tangerine. Finish bright and snappy.

Anne Amie, Pinot Gris, Oregon, $19

Anne Amie Willamette Valley Pinot Gris is an elegant expression of this versatile varietal. Intensely aromatic powdery floral notes give way to a palate of Asian pear, Meyer lemon and rose petal. Balanced and crisp, this wine is a great match for many dishes

Minimus, Pinot Noir - No Sulfur, Oregon, $21

Vibrant and fresh, without a drop of Sulfur (apart from what occurs naturally, of course). Fermented single lots of Pinot Noir separately, and then brought them together to age in one of our large concrete tanks to help preserve delicate aromatics. The result is a refreshing Pinot Noir with bright fruit and subtle savory qualities.

Carpineto, Dogajolo, Italy, $16

This Sangiovese blend has dark-berry, violet, with hints of vanilla and spice. A wonderful chugger from Tuscany. The palate is complex, but has an easy, fine finish. Pairs well with roasts, or any flavorful dishes.

Dom. La Graveirette, Ju De Vie, France, $14

This is not, just another declassified Chateauneuf du Pape from the wrong side of the fence – this is a wine that stands on its own merit, proudly, as vin de table. A complex yet easy drinking wine, that focuses on the fruits, aged for a year in stainless steel and concrete, the tannins are subtle and balanced to allow the wine to show is lighter notes alongside a velvety texture that makes this such a pleasing wine
