Wine Tasting: Petit Monde

Petit Monde w/Megan

“Gimme Saumur!!!”

(Wines of the Loire Valley France)

Welcome in Megan from Petit Monde Importers. She will take us on a special trip to Saumur! A tiny town in the heart of the Loire valley in central France. All the wines are unique and fantastic! Starting with two Chenin Blanc: one bubbly one still. Then to a classic Cab Franc from female winemaker Angelique Leon. Yielding to a super cool, bubbly, dark red Gamay. Real nice!! Then, we shall finish with a rare grape - Gamay De Bouze. Big and full bodied. Thrill your palette and try these wines from Saumur!

@ Humble Vine. Wednesday, December 26th 4pm till the bottles are dry!

Here are the goods!

Château de Brézé Cremant de Loire Brut, NV $21

This single-vineyard sparkler from Saumur is sourced from some of the most celebrated terroirs in the Loire valley. These vineyards lie in front of the Château de Brézé, a Renaissance-era castle whose wines were the favorite of the king of Anjou. 80% Chenin Blanc, 20% chardonnay, aged 24 months on its yeasts.

Domaine Arnaud Lambert, 2016 St Cyr en Bourg Saumur, Chenin Blanc $18

From acclaimed young vigneron Lambert comes this clean and fresh Saumur Blanc. Crisp, bright, and high acid, this is not a sweet Chenin. In fact, this wine has more in common with Sauvignon Blanc than it does with an Off-dry Vouvray.

Angelique Léon Chinon, 2014, Cabernet Franc $18

Léon is one of 5 female producers in the AOC of Chinon, and one could argue this feminine touch sets her wines apart. She’s got a 10 acre polyculture farm, where she grows white asparagus along with her prized Cabernet Franc vines. All had harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and then aged in the troglodyte caves that lie beneath her vineyards.

Patrice Colin, Perles Rouges, Ancestral Method Gamay, Coteaux de Vendomois NV $19

What? A sparkling red? And it is dry? That’s right. An ancestral method sparkling wine, what the kids call “Pet Nat”, this rustic red from the northern edge of the Loire is the ultimate holiday party wine. Organically farmed since before there was a term to describe it, this wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and is also vegan.

Les Terres Blanches “Pot de Vache” Gamay de Bouze, VDF (Anjou) $21

This is a weird, cool wine! A colonial variant of the famous Gamay grape that gives it a spotted skin and a deep purple pigment to the juice. Those pigments are all tannin, so this wine has a significant grip and structure compared to the wines of Beaujolais — along with intoxicating spice, smoke, and floral notes. Farmed biodynamically, with little to no sulfur added.
