Wine Tasting: French Rose’s & USA Cab’s

French Rose’s & USA Cab’s

Start your Saturday night off with a few dry and exciting pink-plunkers from South France. Bubble gum and Strawberries. Yumm. Then we come back to America for a pair of Cabernet Sauvignon from California, and a pair from Washington! Contrast and compare. That’s what I always say….  So come try a few Side-by-sides.

Down at the Olde Humble Vine , Saturday Aug 25. 4pm-8pm!!

Domaine la Graveirette Ju De Vie, Rose 2017 $13

Brand new from Awesome wine maker Julien Mus, comes “Ju de Vie” in the pink! The first vintage of this 100% Syrah is rich fruit foreword and straight delish. Dry but with red raspberries, and …bubble gum? Full bodied. And richly salmon colored from all that inky Syrah.

Foncxalieu, PiquePoul Rose, France $16

In French, pique means “grab” and poule means “hen”. Hens have a particular fondness for this grape and will “grab” them to eat. Piquepoul Noir has been grown in Southern France for centuries.  It is originally from the Languedoc and is one of the 13 grapes permitted in Châteauneuf du Pape. Very pale pink color. Light bodied and clean with refreshing acidity, bright rose petal aromas and citrus notes.

For a Song, Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley WA, $14

Deep purple with generous aromas emanating from the glass bramble, sweet tobacco and vanilla, framed by luscious ripe black fruits plumb, blackberry, cassis and figs. Drinking well now but will cellar for 5 years.

James, Cabernet Sauvignon, Buellton CA, $16

A lovely cab, Dark purple, nice legs run up the glass. Currant, blackberry, cherry, bell pepper, olive, asparagus, spice, ginger, oak and vanilla, blackberry, cedar and cigar box. Complex, and way underpriced….

Smith and Hook, Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast CA, $22

Relying on decades of experience, the Hahn family makes Cabernet that's easy to quaff. This one features aromas of warm blueberry pie and melting ice cream, with a cigar-box backbone. The flavors mix ripe fruit and smoke, proving light in the mouth and not too serious, but delicious.

Inconceivable Wines, “After the Floods” Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley WA, $23

Blackberry and black cherry aromas dominate the nose with a moderate level of toasty vanilla from oak aging. A rich mouthfeel (with nicely rounded tannins) is complemented by notes of blackberry, black currant, and black cherry. There are hints of tanned leather and vanilla joining the dark fruit character on the finish.
