Wine Tasting: Palate Pleasers

Palate Pleasers

If you only enjoy wines that are delicious, then do I have a wine tasting for you!... The wine tonight is full of flavor, life, and good times. All you have to do is get here. We are going to dig into a Gran Reserve Brut Nature Cava. (read: fine champagne from Spain). Then we get into a super tasty Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley.  And for our reds we found your new daily drinker, a Malbec from Argentina at a price that is perfect for winter shopping. Then we chill out and go Lo-Fi for an (almost) all-natural wine maker from Washington: Sonder! But we finish with a Bordeaux that has been a favorite of mine for a while. Bold, serious, and Very French, but don’t hold that against it! Tee hee… Get here tonight!!

@ Humble Vine, Wednesday November 13

4PM TILL THE BOTTLES RUN DRY OR SELL OUT SO GET HERE EARLY!!!

Mestres, Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature, Penedes Spain $26

A great Cava produced by one of the most ancient and prestigious wineries in Penedès. Vinified following the traditional Champenoise method, secondary fermentation took place in the bottle. Aged for a period of 40 to 50 months. Being a Brut Nature, no sugar was added to the wine after the disgorging operation.

O & T, Touraine Blanc, Loire France $13

Sourced from Sauvignon Blanc vines that root into the chalky soils of Touraine, giving almost unheard of minerality at this price. Pale yellow. Citrus and flint on the nose, with a medium bodied palate and quenching acidity.

Argento, Malbec, Mendoza Argentina $13

This superb Malbec is deep purple, with powerful aromas of red berries and floral notes. Flavors of plum and sweet blackberry. Finish of ripe, balanced tannins. A great food wine. But can be chugged alone in a pinch. Steal of a deal.

Sonder Field Blend, Yakima WA $22

Sonder is crafting Lo-Fi, minimalist intervention, easy drinking wines from the Yakima Valley. This wine is medium bodied and ripping with cherry and raspberry flavors. Light in style but packed with flavor. Sonder is crafting Lo-Fi, minimalist intervention, easy drinking wines from the Yakima Valley. No extra pesticides and sulfurs and what knots.

La Sacristie, Fronsac, Bordeaux France $25

The richness of this wine is palpable in the dense, chewy black plum flavors, in the dark tannins and in the concentrated structure that comes through strongly. The wine has power, concentration and dark intensity.
