Vino Italiano

NORTHERN ITALY

From east to west the Northern realm of Italy has vibrant racy reds and whites. We dip into 3 regions: Friuli, Piedmont, and Verona. We start with 2 whites from the same wine maker, Colutta. The we jump over to Piedmont for 2 tasty teds. Then we end up in Verona for an Amarone. Sì. Sì. Sì... Ciao Bella.

@ Humble Vine, Saturday, November 2nd 4PM

till the bottle runs dry…

Colutta, Pinot Grigio, Friuli $21

This OPnot Grigio will bite back. Nicely rounded but with sharp acidity. Aroma from apple, lime peel, green grass, and crushed walnuts. Intense fresh pear and jasmine with a bitter lemonade. Mouth is smooth and pear with a bitter apple and a high acidity and minerality with an important alcohol and a mineral chalky exit and aftertaste

Colluta, Sauvignon, Friuli $21

Crisp and steely, it has aromas of freshly cut grass, hay and tropical fruit. The palate delivers white grapefruit, pineapple and white peach lightly accented with aromatic herbs.

Podere Ruggeri Corsini, Barbera D’Alba, Piedmont $18

Striking underlying acidity accents the high toned red fruit aromas that are lifted by spice and floral overtones. These characteristics transition to palate allowing the flavors to emerge slowly toward a balanced and layered finish. This Barbera D'Alba is lovely now, but will also hold for up to 5 years.

Suagná, Langhe Rosso, Piedmont $29

My sweet spot: The Langhe. Not as expensive as Barolo, but classic Piedmont Nebbiolo flavors. often used with a little oak. This guy is a combination of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. Ruby red with violet reflections. Pleasant smell, fruity, full-bodied, persistent and elegant. It can be served during all meals.

Villa Leone, Amarone, Verona $48

In fair Verona where we lay our scene, a tale of three grapes. Molinara, Rondinella

and Corvina are the blend in the famous wine Amarone! Often given theappassimento

treatment. The grapes are dried out often leading to extracted colors, flavors and alcohol.

This wine has a regional food pairing of Risotto.
