Wine Tasting: In Like a Lion, out like a Lamb

“In like a lion, out like a lamb”

When March starts, it's still winter, and by the end of the month spring has begun. These wines will also bridge the gap of wintry darkness to spring zest! We start with a pair of bubbly wines from Italy.  Borgo is our classic house bubble, citrus and crisp. Then Morini offers a little rose petal and toast. Then to two Syrah dominant blends, one from Rhone France, and the other from Yakima! And back to a Rhone blend from France that is “San Sulfite” or no added sulfur. And we finish with a lush and extra delicious Petit Syrah from Alexander Valley California.

Come and be a lamb @ Humble Vine Saturday, March 2nd 4pm till the bottles run dry….

Borgo Alato, Prosecco, Italy, $11

Pale light-yellow color, delicate and complex bouquet with fruity notes reminiscent of peach and green apple, there are also good secondary notes of acacia and lilac. Fresh and light on the palate with balanced acidity.

Morini, “MoRose” Centesimino Spumante, Italy $21

This dry, rose sparkler has hints of wild strawberry, and a touch of lemon zest. We will find wonderful tiny bubbles, and scents of roses from the grape called Centesimino! This grape was believed to be descended from 1 vineyard discovered in the 1960’s!!

Kamiak, Rock Lake Red, Washington, $14

During the mid-1800’s, Chief Kamiak of the Yakama Tribe initiated irrigation of the fertile Columbia Valley soil. Native American petroglyph on our labels is a tribute to the rich history of Columbia Valley’s true agricultural leaders. Plum and chocolate. Luscious raspberry flavors compliment the medium body of this wine that delivers luscious acidity and a velvety lingering finish. 42% Syrah, 32% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Tempranillo, 3% Cab.

Caves Jamet, “Le Sang Du Peuple”, France, $14

In the hills of Chateaneuf du Pape comes this revolutionary wine.  Lovely dark velvet, almost black in color. This wine has an unsweetened black cherry and red fruit nose. In taste, dry and very earthy with high minerals. A slight sweetness at the first sip almost ruins it but disappears quickly. Unfiltered…really unfiltered. Lol. Mostly Syrah in this blend.

Domaine Des Carabiniers, Cotes du Rhone, France, $21

Horse Flowers (Domaine des Carabiniers) is a family owned winery operated since 1974.  The 40-hectare estate has been certified Organic since 1997, and Biodynamic since 2009. Harvest takes place at night to prevent oxidation of the grapes, avoiding the use of SO2 (no sulfur) in order to retain freshness and protect the aromas.  Gentle vinification in a gravity fed winery using indigenous yeasts also helps to retain purity of fruit.

La Storia, Petit Syrah, California $27

Softly textured tannins surround a hefty full-bodied plushness of plummy cobbler, blueberry and dark chocolate in this well-made, robust and rich wine. Caramel and mocha appear on the lengthy finish. It has a very dark, opaque color, beautiful nose of concentrated blueberries and blackberries that leads to a full body mouth feel with engagingly soft tannins. After short aeration the nose opens up with the addition of cocoa and slight earthiness followed by brown sugar and a touch of vanilla, which is contribution from the new oak barrels. Mmmmmm.
