Humble Vine Wine Tasting:
SPAIN!
Spain has been a powerhouse of wine for centuries. Spain is a large country geographically and has more acreage under grape cultivation than any other country in the world although many vineyards are low-yielding. Overall it is 3rd largest in terms of world-wide wine production. The 4 wines presented here are a great swath of the diversity of the country. We start with a Bubbly Cava, then to a White Rioja!, We will try one of my favorite dark and inky wine regions in the world Priorat, then on to the classic and undeniably the most popular wine of Spain The Rioja! So come and get tickled by these diverse and delicious wines!

Here are a few notes….
German Gilabert, Cava, Brut Nature Reserva, Penedes $17
Only native grapes are used, the vines are farmed organically, and the wine is bottled without added sugar, (no dosage - or Brut Nature). Primary fermentation in stainless steel vats. Secondary fermentation in the bottle, and it is raised on the lees 18-20 months before disgorgement.
Larchago, Rioja Blanco, $16
100% Viura. Sharp, prickly aromas are driven by pyrazines, while this feels like it smells: tangy and citric, with zip. Pointed tangerine and grapefruit flavors finish juicy and green. Overall, this is much like Verdejo or Sauvignon Blanc
Black Slate Priorat Gratallops, $24
August Vicent is the proprietor Celler Cecilio, the oldest registered estate in Priorat (established in 1942). He makes characterful, lush and exotically spiced wines from his vineyards in the village. It is a blend of Garnatxa Negra, Carinyena, and Syrah from vines ranging in age from 20 to 65+ years old. Fermented entirely with indigenous yeasts, it is aged in a combination of concrete and French oak barrels.
Familia Chávarri, “Izarbe” Rioja Reserva Vendimia Seleccionada, Rioja $38
Bright, dark cherry red, with good depth and a purple rim. Intense primary aromas, fresh and harmonious combined notes from oak aging. Sweet, ripe tannins in the mouth. Elegant, balanced mouth. Harmonious, pleasant, long aftertaste.
