Avennia:
Old World Inspiration. Proudly Washington.
Sourcing from acclaimed vineyards and employing traditional cellar techniques, our goal is to create wines with a voice..
Avennia was founded on the passion to showcase Washington as a unique and compelling place for great wines. Our priority is to acquire fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Washington, and allow them to express themselves. We chose to focus on the grape varieties used in Bordeaux and the Rhône, as their similar latitude to Washington makes them a natural fit to excel here.
Inspired by the naturalist vigneron methods in the Old World, our winemaking is based on doing less in order to let the fruit speak for itself. With this approach, sourcing the finest fruit possible is paramount. We use native yeast to ferment the wines, and bottle them unfined to preserve the most complexity and expression. Blending trials are used extensively to achieve the finest texture and balance possible.

“Oliane”, Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley $28
Oliane is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, barrel fermented using native yeast and bottled unfined.
Bright and rich aromas of nectarine, tart apple, Meyer lemon, and sun-dried hay. The palate is marked by a balance of fresh acidity with rich concentration of citrus, stone fruit, white flowers, and crushed seashells. The finish echoes with citrus peel, fresh herbs, and a bit of freshening sea spray. This is drinking great now, and may be the most age-worthy vintage yet for Oliane.
Lydian, GSM, Columbia Valley, $25
In music, Lydian refers to a mode, or scale that is used as a building block for some of the world’s oldest and newest masterpieces. This happy sounding mode brings joy on its own, yet when molded and crafted by talented musicians can become a work of timeless art. Lydian wines can be as complex, nuanced, and profound as any jazz classic.
Fresh and lively on the palate, with strawberry, red cherry, and hints of savory earth, fresh mint, and lavender. A delicious wine.
38% Grenache, 31% Mourvèdre, 31% Syrah
“Arnaut”, Syrah, Boushey Vineyard, Yakima Valley $59
No one grows finer Syrah in WA than Dick Boushey. Made with minimal manipulation, using native yeasts, bottling unfined and unfiltered, to allow the “place” to shine through. Named after the Provençal troubadour Arnaut Daniel, who invented the Sestina poem form,
This wine is quite dark in color, with aromas of black raspberry, plum and blackberry reduction, dried sage, and crushed rock. The palate is deep and quite savory, showing black fruits, licorice root, grilled pork belly, and black peppercorns. Though there’s plenty of fruit here, the savory elements are what sets it apart.
100% Syrah
“Sestina”, Columbia Valley, $75
The Sestina is a type of poem with an ancient structure within which new ideas can flourish. Old World Bordeaux varietals chosen from great vineyards, and treated in a traditional fashion, yielding a modern vision of Washington’s finest terroirs.
This is a very complex, almost brooding Sestina in its youth, with deep and developing aromas of black currant reduction, dark plum, graphite, and eucalyptus, with hints of thyme, Madagascar vanilla, and crushed stone. The palate is stacked with layers of flavor, featuring black currant liqueur, mocha, cigar box, eucalyptus, and a beautiful mineral backbone.
77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc
