Here’s the pulse!
Monser, Zghihara de Husi, Husi, Romania $19
100% Zghihara de Husi. From the town of North east town of Husi, in the Vaslui County near the Moldova border. It is medium straw in color, with aromas of lemon blossom, lemon meringue pie and apple cider. It has a salivating drip of tart apple and ripe pear. The elegant flavor beats of minerality in the mid palate with an explosion of lily's and a slight bite of acidity with hints of lemon zest on the end. The finish is slightly tart but pleasant enough to drain very last drop the bottle.
Budureasca, Orange, Dealu Mare, Romania $26
Half each Sauvignon Blanc & Feteasca Regala. Budureasca vineyards are located on Parallel 45, the same geographical coordinates as Bordeaux or Burgundy. These white wines are left on the skins for more than 500,000 heart beats (5 or 6 days) to create a great orange color, aromas of Neck-tarines, citrus fruits, flowers, and a bit of vanilla. Fun and full bloodied… I mean full bodied.
Prince Mircea, Feteasca Neagra, Stârmina - Bucharest , Romania $24
A classic noble grape from Romania. These Fetească Neagră grapes are splayed on the dreary hills of Stârmina, in the south west of Romania. Glorious wine! Aged in French oak for 12 months. Blood red. (OK, a little purple too) Intense aromas of blackberry jam, large palate, hefty body with supple tannins, plush aromas, and long aftertaste of the best plums you’ve ever sunk your teeth into. Arguably, the best Fetească Neagră out there!
Budureasca, Noble Five, Transylvania, Romania $29
Noble Five is a cuvée resembling an old royal family: Cabernet Sauvignon is the King, with his commanding presence and bold tannins and just a hint of spice Pinot Noir is the Queen, with her beautiful bouquet of forest fruits and soft, velvety tannins. Merlot is the eldest Prince, with his well-rounded structure and charming long aftertaste. Shiraz is the Youngest Prince, with lively aromas of black currant and black pepper. Feteasca Neagra is the Princess, charismatic, soft and elegant.
From the best vineyards. Vinification took place separately for each variety, tortured in Romanian and French oak barrels for 9-12 months. Only the best barrels were selected to create Noble 5. Then it took Three painstaking full moons (months) for the winemaker to craft and blend this delicious beast. AHHHWOOOOOO!!!
