French Whites
A fun day with fresh white wines from France! We compare Chardonnay from the warmer southern Burgundy to a steely crisp Chard from the colder north Burgundy. Then two rich wines from the Loire Valley: Chenin blanc, and a blend. Viva la France!

Joseph Drouhin, Macon-Lugny Les Grays, Burgundy, France $23
100% Chardonnay from a single vineyard in the Macon, South Central Burgundy. It combines the maturity of the fruit and freshness over an almost salty structure. It shows a shining color, a nose reminiscent of flower and peach, and a full mouth with a mineral finish.
Baudoin Millet, Petit Chablis, Chablis, Burgundy, France. $27
Another Chardonnay but completely different. Way up north in the Chablis Region of northern Burgundy. Chablis wines are dry white wines which are characterized by their purity, crispness, sophistication and minerality. A bouquet of white flowers mixed with citrus notes of lemon, grapefruit, over a mineral gun-flinty base.
Ferme du Mont Benault, ‘Petit Cailloux’ Blanc, Loire, France $23
A natural wine. A blend of 60% Grolleau Gris and 40% Chenin Blanc. A shiny yellow wine. Refreshing aromas such as green apple, sage, and lemon rind. Delicate spice like white pepper. In the mouth, it has a sharp lemon and lime acidity, and a salty mineral feel. A long honey-lemon-like finish.
Chateau du Petit Thours, Clos Chinon Blanc! Loire, France $26
White wine from this appellation is a true rarity: only 2% of all production in Chinon is white! This 100% Chenin Blanc is delicious, bone dry, showing aromas of pear, lemon, white flowers and cream with just a touch of jasmine. On the palate, the wine is rounded and creamy, with a vibrant core of peach and pear fruits followed by snappy minerality.
