WASHINGTON WINE MONTH
Our second installment of Washington Wine month brings us a comparison of 2 white Albariňo. A delicious white grape that explodes with aromas and flavors. Then onto a a grape that is blended more often than as a single varietal wine: Mourvedre! And we finish with a classic Cabernet from Mark Ryan. What a great lineup!!

Rm, Caliche, Albarino, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, Washington $19
Albarino is from the northwest of Spain, in the Rias Baixas region. But Washington has been making this wonderful variety for decades. We will find a bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. Intense flavors of tangerine, melon, and pineapple come through on the palate. Superb minerality, crisp, and refreshing with an aromatic finish.
Lucius, Albarino, Royal Slope, Washington $22
Fro the makers of Latta Wines, comes the Lucius brand. A single vineyard concrete aged Albarino! Notes of wet slate, fresh lemon zest, peach stones, and minerality gives this wine nonstop aromas. The mouth feel is rich and luscious with a clean and crisp finish.
Lucius, Mourvedre Snipes Mountain, Washington $26
Mourvedre almost certainly a Spanish grape (they call it Monastrel). But it is grown all over Southern France, especially in the Rhone Valley (the ‘M’ in G.S.M.) And it does very well in Washington blends, but we don’t see it standing all alone very often. This Single vineyard Mourvèdre has bright raspberry and white pepper notes. Dark purple, clean, and wonderfull finish.
Mark Ryan, Dissident Red Columbia Valley, Washington $39
The Dissident opens with inviting aromas of rich dark fruit, violets, and graphite. Cassis and cocoa on the palate are joined with a hint of vanilla, plush fine tannins, and a lengthy finish. Aged 18 months in French oak, 37% of which is brand new.
83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot
