That was two years before the French Champagne company Louis Roederer, which eventually purchased Scharffenberger, chose Anderson Valley as the place to expand its hundred year-old family-owned champagne production. In this Sauvignon Blanc we find lime, ripe peach, candied orange, and wonderful mineral notes. Aged for seven months in French oak, with 14% of the barrels being new. Because of Mondavi winery the use of oak in Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is quite common, with many producers employing this technique to add complexity and texture.
Stolpman, La Cuadria Ballard Canyon, California $27
A shop favorite!Santa barbera wines started commercially in 1962. Stolpman Vineyards started in 1988. Stolpman employs its dedicated, passionate vineyard workers year-round. In an effort to provide further stability to their families, the crew “La Cuadrilla” receives the profits of this wine! A coating of plush fruit fills the mouth prior to lifted freshness fruits rising again towards the finish. The red fruits fill a spectrum from firm cherry to riper berry coulis. Subtle acidity married with the red berry fruit and loamy, silky tannin all combine to last in the mouth for minutes in a delicately balanced, feathered finish 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Sangiovese.
Brendel, Cabernet Sauvignon “Coopers Reed” Napa Valley, California $34
Leon Brendel started making wines in Napa in 1940 for Freemark Abbey! He eventually sold most of his vineyards to Heitz cellars. Years later this company carries on his legacy. This wine is a nod to old school Napa Valley Cabernet with a fresh twist. Utilizing organic grapes being sourced from the pristine valley floor vineyards. This wine ages slowly in large oak casks that assist in showcasing the incredible purity of fruit and freshness when it hits the palate. Fresh aromas of eucalyptus and vibrant red and black fruits. The palate follows the nose and finishes with nice tannins.
