France!
OK, ok, ok. Yes it is just a French wine tasting. The day before Independence Day. But our revolution was just 13 years before theirs, AND we share the same colors in our flag! So!!!, we try 4 French wines from 4 different colors of wines, from 4 different regions! A Sparkling wine from Loire, a Rose from Bordeaux, a Blanc from Burgundy, and a red from Rhone! Gotta catch em all!

Les Equilibristes, “Zestes” Pétulant Naturel Loire, France %25
’Les Equilibristes’ means tightrope walkers. And that is what the winemakers have done. Unique grapes from the Loire Valley, a natural wine, but you wouldn’t know it. No funk, plenty of flavor, with lotsa’ fantastic bubbles. Sparkling wine done in the ancestral method (Pét-Nat) The technique is referred to as the Ancestral Method because it’s assumed that this is one of the earliest forms of sparkling winemaking! We find it lightly herbal with cucumber, white pepper and nice citrus edge, orange rind and lime leaf. Super fresh and delightful. Is this the best pet nat we have had?…. 60% Pineau d'Aunis, 30% Grolleau Gris, 10% Grolleau Noir. Freakin cool man….
Mouton Cadet, “Mathilde” Rose Bordeaux, France $20
In the 1950s, Baron Philippe de Rothschild got Mouton Cadet onto the wine lists of top restaurant-owners, who appreciated the wine for its constant quality. Its reputation soon spread beyond France with the launch of Mouton Cadet on the British market, then in the United States.
Refreshingly crisp and well-balanced. It delivers a harmonious blend of red fruit flavors, particularly strawberry and raspberry, with a touch of citrus zest adding brightness. The wine's minerality adds depth, while its lively acidity ensures a clean and invigorating finish. 100% Merlot
Lamblin, Bourgogne Blanc Burgundy, France $21
Golden color with bright reflections. Nose offering beautiful aromas of white flowers mixed with fine and delicate citrus fruit aromas evolving towards ripe fruit notes. Good attack in the mouth. The developed flavors are fruity and nuanced by very beautiful mineral notes. Good length on the palate. 100% unoaked Chardonnay.
Mikael Boutin, Rasteau Rhone Valley, France $28
Rasteau is one of the special towns in the Rhone valley that gets high praise. This Raateau is a blend of 60% Grenache with 10% each of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault, the wine is fermented and aged in concrete tanks. It shows a balance and purity of fruit. Not the thick jammy Rhone wine. Crisp, clean, bright pure nose shows clean, fresh cherry-laced fruit undercut with warmer notes of licorice and dried herbs. Not too showy, it lets the terroir do its work. The brisk and lively acidity lends a freshness and energy to the fruit.
