Battle Royal.
Come Gather round and see the face off of wines! Our first match-up of the night will be Bubbles v. Bubbles. Both delicious, but one French and one from…Washington!!!
The next set to jump in the ring are two Rhone Blends. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre. (or GSM). Both french, but we won’t hold it against em’. And… on the main card this evening’s battle royal, we pit Cabernet Franc v. Cabernet Franc. A versatile grape. One hails from the Loire Valley, and the other from Southern Oregon. So, get your popcorn and settle in to taste the Battle Royal!
Saturday Night, June 22nd @ Humble Vine 4pm-8pm
Card 1: Bubbles
Treveri, Sparkling Blanc de Blanc Brut, Yakima WA $16
Smooth, complex and crisp, Treveri Brut demands indulgence and brings clear perspective to your moment. The fresh and dry finish enhances this bubbly and brings luxury to any occasion.
Cave de Bissey, Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, FR $18
A blend that includes Aligoté along with the traditional Champagne grapes, this is lively and bright. Fresh apples and a soft aftertaste make for an easy to drink wine that is lit with final acidity.
Card 2: GSM
(Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre)
Gonnet Famille, La Mado, Rusteau Rhone, FR $15
A great Rhone wine that Is nearly purple in color and opaque, with a few slowly appearing and descending legs. On the nose it has dark fruits and hint of bacon! On the palate there is plum, fig, pleasant earth, and mineral. A medium tannin with a lingering and pleasant finish.
Domaine Gravierette, Cotes du Rhone $16
This is a ruggedly built Côtes du Rhône, showing a rich texture and a long finish. Along the way, it delivers a mix of plums, pie cherries and dusty sunbaked earth aromas and flavors.
Card 3: Cab Franc
M & S Bouchet, Le Sylphe, Cab Franc, Loire FR, $21
It is beyond alive here with classic, sweet spices and black pepper. There is a silky, tobacco quality that combines well with all of the explosive black fruit. The wine tastes even better on day two when the tannin relaxes and all that is left is the exposed, raw richness of fruit that comes to the center weaving in and out with perfect acidity on a solid structure.
Leah Jorgensen, Cabernet Franc $29
cinnamon bark, cigar, sweet birch bark, the distinctive spicy-citrus aroma of black walnut leaves, brambles, and ripe cherries. On the palate, this is a dry wine with ripe fruit flavors of black cherries, raspberry, cherry tobacco, anise, spice, and black pepper on the finish. It’s fresh, but with firm tannins on the finish – this wine will age gracefully.
