Wine Tasting: Indie Wine Distributors

 Indie Wineries

Much like Indie films, Indie Wineries takes us away from the normal blockbuster style of an experience. Showing off the cerebral edges of the genre at hand. You have to think more askew when you consume “out of the box”. Come and let Graham, from Indie Wineries show you how it is done. These wines have been touched by a winemaker that wants to do things in their own way. Damn the Torpedoes! We will start calm with a new Cava from Spain, all certified organic. Then we quickly fly off the rails for a unique blend Rosé from Russian River, also Certified Organic. Then we go down the rabbit hole for an “Extended Maceration” Semillon (think orange wine) from Oregon, Whoa! On to a Rhone blend that has seen No Sulphur from a Biodynamic vineyard. And the cherry on top is Minumus. A very rad winery that is thinking waaay outside the box.

If you want your mind blown….

Come check out Indie Wineries @ Humble Vine, Saturday September 8th 4pm-8pm

Vinyes Singular, Brut Cava, Penedes Spain NV, $17

The entire farm is rated and certified Organic. Ancient vines Cava from Northwest Spain, near Barcelona. Made from the Champagne method, the wine was fermented and aged in bottle. The winemaker Ignas’s wife painted the art on the label. A round and bubbly wine offering notes of toast, lemon custard, and orange marmalade.

Oeno, Rosé, Russian River California 2017, $19

Crafted with organically grown grapes from Sonoma, California. This crazy rose wine is a blend of Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Carignan. Crisp and dry with fresh white peaches and strawberries. Finished with a citrus zing tickling the palate.

Golden Cluster, Semillon, David Hill Vineyard, Willamette, Oregon 2016 $37

A vineyard planted 1880, making this the oldest known Sémillon in the Pacific Northwest. The vines are dry farmed and planted on their own roots! After hand harvesting, the grapes spend around 50 hours on the skins (extended maceration) and ferment with native yeast. Aging is in neutral barrels, and there is no fining or filtration. Total geek wine. It is amazing.

Domaine des Carabiniers, Unsulfured Cote du Rhone France 2017, $21

Hardcore Biodynamic. Unsulfured Cote du Rhone!!! 50% Grenache/50%Syrah. The Family started to work in organic and obtained Ecocert certification in 1997 and obtained Demeter certification in 2009. Their terroirs have been chemical-free for a long time now. They like to make fruity, expressive and spicy wines. This one is big.

Bajondillo, Jimenez Landi, Spain 2016, $19

All-natural wine maker from Spain, Southwest of Madrid. Wines are fermented with all indigenous yeast. No chemicals are used in the vineyards and only a minimal amount of Sulphur is added at bottling. The wines are honest and made with a strategy of low intervention. This tiny family blend is Cabernet, Garnacha, and Syrah.

Minumus, Rockwell American Red, 2017 – $32

This could be the coolest wine maker I’ve heard of. Chad stock is in Yamhill/Carlton, the heart of Oregon Wine country. This bottle will not be made again! Each wine is the result of an experiment designed to challenge Chad's formal education in Enology. The resulting wines, should they survive the experiment, are numbered in the order that they are released, and will be produced only once. Chad keeps track of each experiment in his journal, documenting every aspect of the process including conception, implementation, vineyard site selection, and much, more. Grapes=Tempranillo, Syrah, Blaufränkisch, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc. "Drink Differently"
