Carpe Diem, Chardonnay, Anderson Valley, - $23
Grapes for the Carpe Diem Chardonnay are selected exclusively from the best vineyards in Northern California‘s cool Anderson Valley. This fog-shrouded region not far from Mendocino Coast and the Pacific Ocean provides ideal growing conditions for these delicate grapes. This dramatic wine offers a tantalizing bread-dough aroma that leads to bold flavors of toasted oak, baked apple, nutmeg and butter. Medium in body, it's wrapped in a smooth texture that also retains a tang of crisp acidity for good balance.
Broc Cellars, Love Red, Berkeley - $24
52% Carignan, 42% Zinfandel, 6% Grenache Noir. the Love Red grapes are harvested early to highlight the fruit and preserve the acidity and fermented only by native yeasts. The Carignan fruit comes from three 70 year old dry farmed vineyards in Northern California and was fermented carbonic. They destemmed then fermented the Zinfandel in stainless open top fermenters. And the Grenache Noir was fermented carbonic. The wine was aged in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and concrete tanks for 8 months. Carignan delivers the blue fruit in the wine. Zinfandel brings out the brightness. And the Grenache Noir holds it together, adding a really pretty fruit element to the wine.
Stolpman, “La Cuadrilla”, Ballard Canyon - $27
Stolpman Vineyards is located in Ballard Canyon, just north of Santa Barbara and just 15 miles from the coast. With its warm days and cool nights, it is a perfect spot to grow grapes. This bottling was a pioneer in uplifting the education and funding of farmworkers when it began years ago, and the results keep getting better. Aromas of cooked plums, cracked pepper, wood spice and beef jerky show on the nose of the blend of 70% Syrah, 15% Grenache and 15% Sangiovese, while smashed berries, toasted sage and coffee beans arise on the sip.
The Pairing, Red Blend , Santa Ynez - $27
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc & 10% Petit Verdot The grapes are sourced primarily from three Santa Barbara regions on the vanguard: Santa Ynez Valley, Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley.. Focused fruit and shapely tannins shine as hallmarks of what we've come to expect from the sandy soils and slightly cooler climate of our outstanding vineyard sites. Utterly fascinating nose mixing lifted black fruit, savory green herbs and dark notes of grilled bread, espresso and anise. Fills the palate with bright red fruit and black plum. A constant play between sweet and savory. Gentle and dusty tannins lead the way into an incredibly long and precise finish. Mulberry sweetness and a wonderful tension between tannic structure and bright acidity. Balanced and refined, a study in elegance.
