Happy WAugust! Washington’s SECOND wine month! We start the disco dancing with some far out vino from our own backyard. Let’s get sippin’ some delicious white Picpoul, a Grenache Blush, A red blend and a Cab. All are too dang tasty to miss! So groove on down, groove on down the road…

Here are the Deets

Syncline, Picpoul, Boushey Vineyard, Yakima  $28

All of the fruit was whole cluster pressed and settled overnight before transfer to a concrete cube. Native fermentation was in a concrete cube with elevage in a stainless tank. This intriguing wine has bright lemon balm aromas and flavors that are backed by lively citrus zest and wet stone notes.

Grosgrain, Blush Rose, Red Mountain  $22

100% Grenache. Lightly treaded by foot and then whole-cluster pressed from Grenache farmed specifically for Rosé. Fermented  and aged in concrete egg (65%) and stainless steel (35%).  Pale blush hue with notes of fresh strawberry, ruby red grapefruit, melon and white flower. Crisp, fresh and dry with mouthwatering acidity. 

Basel Cellars, Claret, Columbia Valley  $21

A claret is another name for a Bordeaux style blend. Merlot and Cabernet Franc each make up 30% of this blend, with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Vibrant bouquet shows hints of ripe cherry, cedar, perfume and pencil shavings. Ripe red berry fruits integrate well with soft toasty oak on the palate, with smooth tannins and good acidity for easy guzzling!

Freehand, Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima  $29

This Cabernet Sauv is a shining example of the gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignons that derive from the Yakima Valley. Robust and full of dark fruit elements this wine showcases an abundance of black currant, boysenberry compote intertwined with intriguing layers of cocoa, sandalwood and cigar box aromatics. The palate is robust with secondary flavors of plums and fig with spicy French oak elements.
