Here’s the line up to shine up
Yellowhawk, Sparkling White, Columbia Valley $30
A zippy and bubbly blend of 75% Riesling and 25% Pinot Gris. Crisp minerality and fresh floral notes from Pinot Gris. Flavors of lemon zest and tropical fruits balance the bouquet with bright acidity and lime zest from the Riesling.
Yellowhawk, Sparkling Red, Columbia Valley $30
Sparkling Columbia Valley Viognier and Walla Walla Syrah. This is a common grape blend of the Northern Rhone Valley, France, and Walla Walla, WA, but rarely a bubbly blend is seen! Classically co-fermented in stainless steel tanks, then spent some time in neutral French and American oak. THEN, the finished wine was blended with estate Semillon! Notes of smoked meats, violets, blackberry and white plum.
Finn Hill Winery, Malbec, Rosebud Vineyard, Wahluke Slope $29
This single vineyard Malbec from the Rosebud vineyards of the Wahluke Slope exhibits a purple-magenta color and wafts perfume of crushed black and red berries on wet gravel, with hints of molasses and bay leaf.
Baer Winery, “Star” Merlot, Stillwater Creek Vineyard, Columbia Vly $34
In addition to her master’s degree for enology from UC Davis, winemaker Erica Orr’s also knocked off a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from UC Berkeley and spent three years of as a biochemistry lab technician doing research for 2009 Nobel Laureate Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn at UC San Francisco. Sooo, she’s pretty much a wizard, and her wines are always impressive.
This merlot has fresh cherry, raspberry, cocoa, cola, and clove. 100% French oak, 59% new. Much richness. Ample deliciousness.
