Wine Tasting: California

  • Humble Vine 824 SW 152nd Street (map)

CALIFORNIA

Maybe atypical, but these California wines are all bit restrained. Lighter in body but full on wonderful flavor. 1 white from Edna Valley and 3 reds from Mendocino. These wines are a joy to taste and don’t leave the palate sand blasted with heavy tannins. Like turning the pillow over to the cool side, these wines are refreshing and a great option for hot weather sipping.

@ Humble Vine

June 7th

2-8 PM

Wine Tasting: $20

Tolosa, Viognier Heritage Edna Valley, California $22

60% of the blend was fermented in stainless steel. The remaining 40% was fermented in oak barrels to make the wine more complex and enhance the natural textural component of Viognier. Honeycomb and orange blossom with notes of sweet cinnamon leaf. Palate of orange blossom and Angostura bitters, with a hint of white truffle oil glide over the mid-palate and to the finish

Populis, Wabi Sabi Red, Mendocino County, California  $24

The Populis 2020 Wabi-Sabi is an ode to the Japanese idea of "perfectly imperfect." As such, this wine pays homage to the amazingly quaffable table wines of Europe with its fresh, tart flavor and lighter-bodied nature. Medium-bodied while still light on its toes, this wine does well with a light chill, and is perfectly suited to the changing seasons. It has restrained tannins and mild spicy character.

Lioco, Pinot Noir, Mendocino, California $29

Critical of the heavy-handed wines of the day, Lioco wondered if it were possible to make some local wines that favored nuance over sheer power. Europe was the inspiration, as were the more restrained California wines of the 1980’s. This Pinot has aromas of black raspberry, violet flower, and pine cone. Flavors of wild coastal berries, lavender and black tea.

Lioco. “Indica” Red, Mendocino, California $26

French Colombard, Barbera, and Grenache which all co-fermented. Explosively aromatic, but with an attack that is more restrained it leaves every jammy Zinfandel in the dust. Aromas of blackberry, lavender and crushed stone alongside flavors of Italian plum, sun-baked herbs and lilac.

Time: 2pm - 8pm or until the bottles run dry!
