France in the Rouge
We go from light to dark as we taste through this all French red wine tasting. First a Grolleau from the Loire, down to Minervois for a blend with no added sulfur, scooch on over for a Cotes du Rhone, then a newly elevated (2016) Cru Rhone! Loads of berry, bramble, and fun are intwined in all these great sippers. J’Adore French Rouge!

Rocher, Le Petits Cailloux Rouge, Loire Valley France $27
This 100% Grolleau cuvée displays a magnificent very light cherry color. Just seeing it makes you want to taste it. We dive into a sun-drenched grape juice, with a beautiful maturity and tannins that are completely forgotten. Between red and rosé, this “rousé” has everything to brighten up your tables this spring or summer.
Cherries and Rainbows, San Soufre Red Blend, Minervois France $24
Grapes are sourced from vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean Sea near Narbonne in Minervois. An organic, natural, and biodynamic wine made with no sulfur! The Grenache shows dark, round fruit, the Syrah contributes spice and earth, and the Mourvedre brings structure and an herbal quality.
Berthed Rayne, Cairrane, Rhone Valley France $22
Cairrane was elevated to cru status in 2016, previously had to be labeled a Cotes du Rhone. This wine is grown from old vines in southern Rhone. Grenache, Syrah and Carignan in the blend. Nice concentration in flavors and scents; hints of brambles, licorice and some rosemary. Easy going on the palate with a good structure. Med acidity and tannins.
Domain D’Andezon, D’Estezargues Cotes Du Rhone, Rhone Valley France $18
Domaine d'Andezon Cotes du Rhone is violet in color. The Syrah offers a lot of aromas on the nose including black fruit. The mouth is prevalent with spices of licorice and black olive with minerality, especially graphite and soot. This wine will continue to develop over time bringing more complexity and power.
