Marques de Caceres, Cava Brut Penedes, Spain $12
Blending 50% Xarel·lo, 30% Macabeo, and 20% Parellada from 25-plus-year-old high-elevation vines. Pale straw color revived by fine bubbles. A nose of croissant and lemon oil leads to flavors of lemon pudding, candle wax, white flowers and a hint of apples.
Conde Valdemar, Rioja Blanc Rioja, Spain $20
Bodegas Valdemar is one of the historic and most respected cellars of La Rioja, as they have 125 years of experience. It displays a pale yellow colour with greenish highlights. Clean and bright. Intense and fresh aromas, standing out white fruits such as pear and citrus notes. Fine nuances to aromatic herbs, boxwood and white flowers. Tasty, vibrant entry, with a persistent and long finish.
Bodegas Borsao, Berola Red Campo de Borja, Spain $19
Intense cherry red color. Warm and gentle on the palate, with soft but persistent tannins in perfect balance. A soft, round-textured red with strawberry and berry aromas and flavors. Remarkable aromatic complexity with memories of black fruit and balsamic and toasted touches. Medium body. Nice fruit and a creamy texture on the finish. Garnacha and Syrah.
Casa Aurora, Clos Pepin Bierzo, Spain $27
Organic, Sustainable, hand harvested from high altitude dry farmed 78 year old vines. A superb bouquet of dark berries, a bit of smoked meats, dark soil tones, black tea, graphite, sweet botanicals and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a rock solid core of old vine fruit, superb mineral drive and grip, ripe, well-measured tannins and excellent length and grip on the well balanced finish. Garnacha Tintorera, Garnacha, Mencía, Palomino, Portuguesa (Trousseau).
