Barbera
Barbera is the hardy staple grape of the famous Piedmont region in Northern Italy. The grape accounts for around 55% of the wine produced in that region Barbera is thought to have originated in the 7th century, (a full 1000 years before Cabernet Sauvignon). Barbera is the 3rd most widely planted grape in Italy.

Marenco, Barbera D’Asti “Bassina” Asti - Piedmont, Italy $19
In the Bassina Estate there is a nice little lake, which, during the summer, is populated by the wild ducks that inspired Marenco logo. Juicy and ripe blueberry, blackberry and tart plum on the nose. The intense fruit aromas are complimented by an elegant violet candy note. The palate switches gear with more tart fruit flavors of sour cherry. This is a classic example of Barbera from Asti. Ages 9 months in concrete tanks.
Scagliola, Barbera D’Asti “La Faia” Asti - Piedmont, Italy $22
Intense, vinous when young and persistent: cherries, plums and dark berries prevail, evolving into scents of jam and fruit preserved in spirit, followed by more or less intense balsamic, spicy and sometimes floral notes; with aging in wood it develops scents of cinnamon, cocoa and liquorices.
Accornero, Barbera Campo Moro - Piedmont, Italy $19
Aged in stainless steel for 6 months and then bottle rest fro 3 months before release. Deep ruby-red color. Sweet floral notes add freshness to the red cherry and plum flavors. Berry nuances and hints of bakers spices. Medium tannins and clean on the palate.
Borgogno, Barbera D’Alba Alba - Piedmont, Italy $23
Borgogno's Barbera d'Alba comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Barolo. 100% Barbera grapes aged in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels. A wonderful ruby red color. The nose opens with hints of red fruits, enriched with pleasant spicy notes. On the palate it is elegant, pleasantly fresh and fruity.
