Picpoul! (And a Languedoc Red)
"Picpoul" translates literally to "lip stinger”. It is a high acid, savory, white, rustic grape variety. The Languedoc region of southern France claims it’s heritage. It is a very cool grape that sings with seafood, and is great for many dishes. We try one from California, one from France, and a light red blend (with Grenache) from Washington! We also threw in an red blend from Languedoc. Come try these fantastic wines!

Bonny Doon, Picpoul, Arroyo Secco, California $18
One of the rare examples of domestic PicPoul, this bracing, zippy white has all the charm and panache of its French forebears while utilizing that California sun to showcase more ripe orchard fruit flavors on the front end. Zesty citrus notes and bright acidity come through.
Equilibristes, Picpoul, Languedoc France $22
Les Equilibristes (the “Tightrope Walkers”) are François de Monval and Florent Girou.
They source the Picpoul for this wine from the Languedoc's best appellation, with rich clay/calcareous soils and organic farming -- which is super rare here. They’re one out of only three organic/natural projects in the region!
Sonder, Grenache/Picpoul, Columbia Valley Washington $25
A delicious blend of Grenache and Picpoul, this is a lighter red co-ferment - both grapes are tossed in and fermented together. A great summer wine! This is a Barbie-pink day dream that gives you nostalgia for the childhood pleasures of watermelon jolly ranchers on a hot summer day. Fresh and quaffable.
