Gard, “Frejya” White Blend Columbia Valley, Washington $22
Freyja is named in honor of the Norwegian goddess of love and is also a nod to the family's Scandinavian roots. It’s a great showcase of what a good winemaker can do with these varietals in Washington State. Boasting scintillating notes of roasted pear, white tea, white peach, dried mint, crushed stone, and sweet baking spice. 74% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 4% Muscadelle. A shop favorite.
L’Ecole 41, Grenache Rose Horse Heaven Hills, Washington $22
This dry Grenache Rosé presents an inviting nose reminiscent of summer including watermelon, strawberry, Thai basil, and orange blossom. On the racy palate, vibrant flavors of melon and hibiscus are carried by a beautiful acid tension, completed by a flavorful mouthwatering finish. 100% Alder Ridge Vineyard Grenache, grown specifically to produce Rosé.
Gilbert Cellars, “Left Bank” Red Horse Heaven Hills, Washington $24
An ode to the “Left Bank” of Bordeaux, meaning that this is Cabernet based (66%) with added 32% Merlot and 2% Carmenre. Notes of cedar, cassis, and coffee. A velvety palate of darker fruit greets you with black cherry and violets, and complex undertones of red peppers and graphite, finishing with a nice spicy and tannic grip.
Dunham Cellars, Syrah Columbia Valley, Washington $42
I tasted and immediately fell in love with this Syrah!! Dry with a buttery but bold fruitiness. Mmmm… Opens with savory notes of sage, herbs, and rosemary mingling amongst a backdrop of inky blue and black fruits. Additional time in the glass reveals cedar, smoked meats, fig, graphite, and dried cranberry. All these beautiful, complex notes are found on the palate with lifted acidity and balanced tannins providing the structure to age.
