Tre Chianti, and. Freisa!

Tre Chianti! And a Freisa

We open the palate with a unique bright and crunchy grape Freisa from Piedmont. And then onto a cool Chianti comparison! Sangiovese is the main grape of the region Tuscany, where Chianti is. The term Classico means "the first" or "the original” and it is a place where Chianti grapes were grown before the areas surrounding it were allowed to be called Chianti. Riserva means extra oak aging. To be considered Riserva, Chianti must be aged for at least two years in oak barrels and three months in bottle. Then a Chianti Classico Riserva?!! Look out!.

June 5th

2-8 PM

Wine Tasting: $20

Accornero, “Bernardino” Freisa       Monferrato - Piedmont, Italy    $22

Very cool to see a dry, still, Freisa on its own. Usually made sweet and fizzy! Freisa is a close relative to Nebbiolo. It is widely cultivated throughout Piedmont, finding it in many red blends from the region.  This wine checks all the boxes for natural wine… Organic, hand harvested, indigenous yeasts, no oak, minimal sulfur. Delicate nose with hints of raspberries, violet and dark plums, complemented by notes of fragrant herbs and spices.

Donna Laura, Chianti Riserva        Chianti, Italy $19

The reserve has a bit more aging in big neutral barrels. With a deep ruby color and intense aromas of cherry and red berry, this Chianti Classico balances ripe fruit and acidity with notes of spice. Dark red cherry, spice, tobacco and dried leaves. 85% Sangiovese, and splash of Merlot.

Cecchi, Chianti Classico "Storia di Famiglia” Chianti Classico, Italy $20

Established in 1893, Cecchi (pronounced check-ee) is one of the oldest and most prominent producers in Tuscany, pioneering the growth and development of the Sangiovese grape worldwideThe more traditional wine style of the Cecchi Chianti Classico is balanced and clean. On the nose, bright cherry, light chocolate, some floral and citrus undertones. Medium-bodied. It shows lovely depth and a layered texture with ripe, round tannins.

Tenuta Lilliano Chianti Classico Riserva       Chianti Classico, Italy $37

100 acres, planted largely to Sangiovese but also with a small amount of international and indigenous varieties. Estate-grown grapes, aged for thirty months (three of which must be in bottle), then judged and approved by a panel of Consorzio members. Sourced from the winery’s two finest vineyards, Le Piagge and La Casina; it is rich yet silky and soft, with notes of cherries, red currants, brambles, dried herbs, cloves, earth and spices on the long, lingering finish.

Time: 2pm - 8pm or until the bottles run dry!
