Staffelterhoff, “Party Panda” Pet Nat Mosel, Germany $33
Weingut Staffelterhof is probably one of the oldest wineries in Germany, in fact it appears for the first time in texts from 862 AD! 100% dry Riesling makes this vibrantly acidic, but the pelage smooths it all out. Aromas of toast, grapefruit, lime, but also some orange and kumquat.
Chateau Pajzos, “T” Furmint Tokaji, Hungary $21
A pale golden color with a gorgeous aromas of apricots, grapefruit, volcanic soils and nuts. The palate is awash with fresh citrus notes of clementine and lime, intermingle with stone fruit flavors and a slight minerality. The wine is light and crisp with a wonderful tension of taut acidity, giving it a beautiful backbone to which all those flavors can cling
Höpler, “Ried Kirchberg Winden” Grüner Veltliner Burgenland, Austria $23
The nose of this wine gives an immediate breezy, zesty impression before a faint hazelnut note appears. On the palate, fruit is in the foreground. Green apple plays with ripe yellow pear and leaves a lovely, light-footed yet textured mouthfeel with a refreshing finish.
Kakhetian Wine Cellar, Rkatsiteli "Amber” Kakheti, Republic of Georgia $22
Ancient grape seeds have been found in Georgia dating back as far as 6000-5800 BC! They started “Orange wines” by aging white wine grapes in amphora pots. Letting the skins impart a texture and color that is uniquely orange. This wine is created using the oldest known grape variety in the world: Georgian Rkatsiteli, native Georgian methods, to give us an anciently classic orange wine!
