German Gilabert, “Brut Nature” Cava Penedes, Spain $23
Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada are the three classic grapes used to make Cava, Spain's most well-known sparkling wine. Flavors and aromas of citrus peel, almond, apple and peach blossom, mineral, green apple, and stone fruit. No added dosage, so it's beautifully dry. Organically-grown, and low added sulfites.
Val do Avia, Treixadura Ribeiro, Spain $21
Ribeiro white wines are stupendous. They stand out for their elegance and subtlety, the aromas of ripe fruits and fresh fruits, floral notes, honeys, herbs and balsamic. In the mouth they are balanced, fine and delicate. Harmonious wines, fresh, aromatic and of good persistence. Ribeiro's whites are gastronomic and versatile wines that evolve very well in the bottle.Golden delicious apple, tart nectarine, a touch of hazelnut and jasmine, with a round juicy palate and refreshing acidity. 100% Treixadura
Akutain, Rioja “Cosecha” Rioja, Spain $27
Akutain is a small grower house in La Rioja Alta, a prized subregion within Rioja that can produce red wines with lots of finesse because of the high elevation of the region. Native yeast ferments in fiberglass, neutral barrel élevage, and all viticulture in conversion to organics: this is a really thoughtful, light-on-its feet Rioja that still tastes traditional. Good Spanish wine for the table, no BS.
Prieto Pariente, "La Provincia” Castilla Castilla Y Leon, Spain $33
Grown from vineyards planted in 1924, 1946 and 1956! On the visual it is intense red cherry color with a violet edge. It has aromatic expression of red fruits. Full-bodied and very elegant on the palate with black fruit flavors and toasted, sweet and spicy notes. It has a light color and a perfumed nose, and it's fresh and medium-bodied with a well-disguised 14.6% alcohol. The palate shows more of the effect of the 18 months of fermentation in oak. 55% Tempranillo and 45% Garnacha.
