Hopler, Zweigelt Burgenland, Austria $21
The Zweigelt grape, also known as Rotburger, was created in 1922 by crossing Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent grapes. Austrias most popular red varietal. Dark ruby red with tinges of purple. Nose of black cherries, raspberry and strawberry with spiced notes of anise and rosemary. Zippy, juicy, fruity and elegant.
Garzon, Tannat Reserve Maldonado, Uruguay $22
Tannat is a red wine grape variety that originated in the Madiran region of southwestern France. It is now most prominently associated with Uruguay, where it is considered the national grape. Deep purple in color, this Tannat fresh aromas reminiscent of red and black fruits such as plums and raspberries on a spiced background.
Aster, Ribera del Duoro Rivera del Duoro, Spain $27
Very high intensity, with a clean and bright black cherry color and intense ruby rim. High complexity on the nose, where the blend of ripe black fruits and wild berry notes intermingles with intense aromas from the aging: licorice, clove, and pepper. Aged for 16 months in 75% new French oak barrels, 100% Tempranillo.
Gard, “Boneyard” Syrah Royal Slope, Washington $28
Syrah is a staple in Washington wines. Sourced from Boneyard vineyard. They named it "boneyard" because of the many relics, including ancient animal bones! A palate full of blueberry jam, boysenberry and black cherry with violet floral aromas. Lifted acidity and very warm mouth feel. Aged 16 months in French oak.
