Sangiovese

Sangiovese is a red Italian wine grape variety that derives its name from the Latin sanguis Jovis, "blood of Jupiter". Sangiovese used for traditionally powerful and slow maturing red wines, is primarily grown in the central regions of Italy, particularly in Tuscany, where it is the dominant grape variety. Most popularly it is used in the region of Chianti.

We start with a Sangiovese a 5 hour drive north of Tuscany, in the Emilia-Romagna then a comparison of 3 Chianti. All four wines are grown organically, with is popular in Italy, especially in Tuscany. Organic wine is made from grapes grown without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers, and without added sulfites. Many producers in Italy do not seek certification because they want the flavors to have the spotlight.
