Mouton Cadet, “Nathan”, White Bordeaux Bordeaux, France $19
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Golden in color, with a slight ivory hue. The nose opens on citrus aromas, especially lemon and grapefruit, then with airing develops hawthorn and jasmine notes as well as a touch of fresh apricot. From a fresh attack on Kaffir lime flavors with a hint of aniseed, the mid-palate expresses the elegance of the floral notes found on the nose, leading into a finish that lingers on hints of licorice.
Estezargues, Cotes du Rhone Blanc Rhone Valley, France $20
Pale straw in the glass with shimmering silver highlights. Scents of pear and yellow apple dominate the nose and a note of white flowers. The palate has flavors of stone fruit, some tropical fruit flavors as well. The wine finishes with notes of dried apricot, white flowers and wet stones. 70% Grenache Blanc, 10% Clairette, 10% Bourboulenc, 10% Viognier.
Chateau Font du Loup, “Signature” Cotes du Rhone Blanc Rhone Valley, France $24
Notes of citrus blossom, fresh white flowers, a touch of honey and ripe pear meet a light touch of spice and mint. This is a medium to full-bodied white, with notes of bright pineapple and white flowers, enticing balance, and mineral finish. 50% Grenache Blanc, 25% Viognier, 25% Clairette
Stephane Rocher, “Les Pierres Bleues” Chenin Blanc Loire Valley, France $37
All the wines I have seen from Steve have been awesome. This wine is biodynamic Chenin Blanc with minimal sulfur. 70 year old Chenin Blanc that grows on the volcanic rock of Mont Benault in Anjou, left bank of the Loire. Matured in clay pots. A big zesty wine with notes of dried herbs, lots of minerality, and mouthwatering acidity.
