SSSpooky
OOOhhh. SSSpooky with three S’s. That must stand for Sauv Blanc, Syrah, and Sangiovese! Oh My! These wines are scary good. We will compare a monster Marlborough Sauv blanc to an immortal Italian blend of mostly Sauvignon blanc. Then from a chilled Sangiovese from creepy California, compared to a cadaver cold Sangiovese from wicked Washington state. Onto the shrieking Syrah with no ghostly gas of sulfur added from france, to a shivering Syrah from California.
So, come in and get spooked with a wonderful tasting that is from the beyond….
@ Humble Vine, Halloween Wednesday October 31 4:00 PM till we go trick or treating! So, get here early….
Marisco, “Fernlands” Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough NZ $13
A true and classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that offers exotic aromas of passionfruit & guava, you’ll also find hints of lime and lemon and possibly a touch of gooseberry. Bold, vivid flavors that mirror the nose are given life and length on the palate and a hint of acidity and minerality that coats your tongue.
Nada, Langhe Bianco, Piedmont IT $19
Pale golden yellow. Intense and lovely, with the first sniff, quite surprising nose: ripe fruit, flowers, honey, gooseberries with their characteristic sweet-bitter notes, some fresh grass. The remarkable aromas remind me of Americana grapes. On the palate, the wine satisfies with a quite full body and a felicitous combination between delicate sweetness and supporting acidity. The finish is long and crisp.
Stolpman, “I love you bunches” Carbonic Sangiovese $27
Bursting with vibrant energy, the Carbonic Sangiovese is a light-hearted wine meant to drink cold. Firm, crunchy cherries, red grapefruit with loads of acid and a popping tannin structure that makes the wine extremely food friendly.
Procedo, Red, Columbia Valley WA 2014 $25
A wonderful blend of with concentrated fruit and supple tannins. A robe of violet color; fragrant black fruit and lilacs on the nose; plush black cherry, blueberry notes; good acidity and fruity finish. Pairs well with a grilled ribeye or ribs. 48% Syrah, 30% Counoise, 17% Mourvédre, 5% Grenache
Domaine des Carabiniers, Unsulfured Cote du Rhone FR, $21
Hardcore Biodynamic. Unsulfured Cote du Rhone!!! 50% Grenache/50%Syrah. The Family started to work in organic and obtained certification in 1997 and obtained biodynamic certification in 2009! Their terroirs have been chemical-free for a long time now. They like to make fruity, expressive and spicy wines. This one is big.
Stolpman, Para Maria de las Tecolotes, Santa Barbra, CA. $23
Para Maria, a fantastic Syrah, already shows off its breadth and complexity at a tender young age. Lively, peppy balance and juicy brambly blackberry. Graphite and cracked pepper create an impression of seriousness with a hint of savory wood from the whole-bunch carbonic fermentation.
