Wine Tasting: WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON WINES

Winter is upon us and we need big hearty wines to warm our palates and bellies. All the wines presented will be from Washington State! We will enjoy a lush rose and Syrah from Zillah Washington: Two Mountain. You may have heard me talk about them in the shop…. (I love these guys). Then to a superb winery Finn Hill. These folks make heavy, rich, extracted wines that are a joy to behold. The Merlot is fantastic. The Syrah is top notch, And the Petit Verdot is a delightful face ripper and a rare grape to see on its own. This wine is the forgotten 5th red grape of Bordeaux. We usually see it in a blend but on its own can make a sailor blush. It is big, brambly and Unique. I suggest you try em’ all on fer’ size!

@ Humble Vine Saturday Dec. 8th 4pm until the bottles are dry.

Two Mountain, Rose $20

This Rosé opens with aromas of strawberry, raspberry and hints of floral followed by flavors of cranberry, strawberry and rhubarb with wonderfully firm acid on the finish. Excellent,

Two Mountain, Hidden Horse Blend #16, $17

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc opens with rich aromas of dark fruits, tobacco and white pepper followed by flavors of blackberry, dark cherry and vanilla, framed in toasty oak.

Two Mountain, Syrah $25

Starts with forest floor on the nose, cherries, and licorice. The body is big and powerful with plums, cherries, cranberry, light guy vanilla, and strong tart wild raspberry. There is a light smoke on the finish but mostly fruit dominant with a whiff of Butter!

Finn Hill, “Merveille” Merlot, $30

Dried herb, purple flower, vanilla, baking spice, black licorice and barrel spice aromas lead to ripe dark fruit flavors in this wine. Generous barrel accents run throughout while tannins bring a touch of dryness.

Finn Hill, “L’Abime” Syrah $30

Your nose is greeted with aromas of red fruit jam, potpourri, cigar box, and saddle leather, with hints of eucalyptus and grilled meat.  On the palette this 100% Syrah delivers freshness and medium body, featuring flavors of red plum, and baking spice, and with suggestions of black olive and bramble.  The finish is balanced, with moderate acidity and smooth, cherry-skin tannins.

Finn Hill, “Tenebrae” Petit Verdot $30

This 100% Petit Verdot is inky dark in color, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry with touches of violet and lilac, and wet cobble stone. The inherent power of Petit Verdot persists on the palate, with a massive delivery of black plum, cherry and chocolate flavors that’s bold and rich yet balanced, with firm tannins and great length in the finish.
