Spain has been a powerhouse of wine for centuries.
Spain is a large country geographically and has more acreage under grape cultivation than any other country in the world! Overall it is 3rd largest in terms of world-wide wine production. The 4 wines represented here are a great swath of the diversity of the country.
We start with a crisp Trexiadura, then to a rich Syrah We will try one of my favorite dark and inky wine regions in the world Priorat, then on to the classic and undeniably the most popular wine of Spain The Rioja! So come and get tickled by these diverse and delicious wines!

Val do Avia, Trexiadura Ribeiro, Spain $18
Tiny appellation in northwest Spain, growing the native grape Treixadura (Tray-shuh-dure-ah). Golden delicious apple, tart nectarine, a touch of hazelnut and jasmine, with a round juicy palate and refreshing acidity. A wonderful wine, on the branch of a Chablis or Albarino…
Alceño, Syrah, Jumilla, Spain $17
Down south in the warm Mediterranean side lies Jumilla. Making this wine savory and round with bright notes of ripe raspberry, smoke, and bacon. Followed by spice and vanilla notes. Aged in French and American oak barrels, where it rests for 6 months before being bottled. Syrah 85% and Monastrell 15%
Cellar Cecilio, Black Slate Priorat Gratallops-Priorat, Spain $26
Cellar Cicillio is the oldest registered estate in Priorat (established in 1942).This wine is a blend of Garnatxa, Carinyena, and Syrah from vines ranging in age from 20 to 65+ years old. Aged in a combination of concrete and French oak barrels. Shows a chalky minerality, hint of rose petal, and spice. The tannins are fine resulting in a long gorgeous finish.
La Antigua, Rioja Classico Reserva, Rioja, Spain $30
This deep red Rioja offers juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows very good energy and suave floral character on a long, fruit-driven finish that's given shape by well- integrated tannins. Aged 72 months in 60% French and 40% American oak barrels and resting for 10 months in bottle before release.
70% Garnacha, 27% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano
